We are thrilled to announce a new collaboration between Head On Foundation and Google Arts & Culture.  We feel honoured to present the very best of Australian and international photographic arts alongside cultural behemoths like MoMa in New York, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Tate Britain in London, and Sydney’s own Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Audiences can now view images from Head On Foundation’s Paper Tigers collection – an anthology of contemporary Australian photojournalism, featuring iconic photos from 60 of Australia’s best photojournalists – and the 2020 Head On Photo Award finalists on Google’s fantastic interactive platform.

Explore eight virtual exhibitions that tell the stories behind some of the most memorable photos and events of the past 40 years. They include heartbreaking captures recording migrants and the refugee crisis, beautiful photographs capturing First Nations Australia, and eye-opening scenes of the environment, and the fight to protect it.

Visit the collection to draw inspiration from the stunning finalists’ images in the 2020 Head On Photo Awards and enter your own best images into this year’s Awards (open now).  We hope you are as excited about these collections as we are.

These stills in time tell incredible stories and show the meaning and emotion behind some of the most impactful events of the last 40 years – there’s so much for Australians and international viewers alike to learn and discover.”  Lucy Schwartz, Program Manager at Google Arts & Culture

“The 60 images selected represent a small snippet of what Australia was like over the past four decades. Images that defined modern Australia, images that reflect the culture we live in, images that make political statements and images of diverse aspects of our world.  I am thrilled for Head On to partner with Google Arts & Culture – this is such an important platform that ensures arts and culture can continue to thrive and fulfil their vital role in our society. Anyone, anywhere, can see excellent photography in a COVID-19 safe way at a time and place that suits them.”  Head On Foundation Director
