Exhibition Description

Rapidly changing mobile phone technology enables everyone with a smartphone to spontaneously capture moments using the skills of a classically trained photo-artist. In the age of social media, mobile photography has become one of the most significant and most consumed genres of photography.

While this genre is the newcomer, it can hold its own against the more traditional photographic techniques.

The Head On Mobile Prize was launched in 2014 to reflect the changing nature of photography and celebrate the huge diversity of images produced.

Exhibition Description

When Sydney photographer Michael Rolph is off duty from shooting landscapes, he takes to the city’s streets, creating monochromatic artwork with a mobile phone.

Michael’s daily excursions are constantly distracted by a habitual observation of the city’s dancing, ephemeral light as it produces ever changing reflections, shadows and silhouettes; bringing to life otherwise unnoticed shapes, patterns, textures and characters as they play their impromptu parts on Sydney’s stage.
