Du Choff translates his thoughts, feelings and fantasies into portraits in his series.

A decade ago, Dutch photographer Guido Benschop’s alter ego Du Choff was born. In a period of depression and mood swings, there was a strong need for depth in his work.

Du Choff translates his thoughts, feelings and fantasies into portraits in his series Amygdala. The amygdala is the centre in the brain that is primarily associated with emotional processes. It is responsible for processing emotions such as fear, anger and pleasure. But it also determines which memories are stored in the brain, and where.

In this series, the portrayed subjects are subordinate, they are at the service of Du Choff. He thus personifies his feelings and translates his melancholy into images.

Du Choff is the alter ego of Dutch photographer Guido Benschop. At the age of 18, he started photographing for various newspapers and photo agencies such as Reuters and Camera Press. He has won many prizes, including the Silver Camera. Nowadays he mainly makes portraits for magazines and newspapers and series, such as the Mondrian landscapes in the context of the Mondrian Year.
