This exhibition blurs the lines between photography and painting, occupying the in between space of the surreal. Acknowledged or not, the human connection to trees is an indubitable truth. Never has a culture existed that contested the curative power of trees or failed to deeply embed their significance in their narrative. In this series, trees are untethered are rerooted in wholly constructed landscapes built of scraps and snatches of other lives, places and times, rendered real by the sheer force of their presence. For in trees is rooted our deepest sense of place and purpose. They are markers in the movement of time, spirit guides making the inconceivable recognisable. It invites subliminal connections with trees as a portal to new realities.
Colin Husband is an accomplished artist and a well known commercial and advertising photographer.
He creates images that are both timeless and untimely. Colin’s work is included in the permanent collection of Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery and in the Fuji/ACMP Photographers Collection at the Art Gallery of NSW. He has been a finalist in the Archibald Prize, a winner of the Outback Art Prize and a five time finalist in the Gosford Art Prize He has twice been selected for 2088: Artists of Mosman at Mosman Art Gallery.
