Emily and Kate had not initially planned to be pregnant at the same time. When Kate had troubles conceiving, she asked Emily to try. Emily became pregnant immediately, and in the three-week interim between her pregnancy and Kate winding down on her fertilization treatments, Kate became pregnant. They said that while it wasn’t what they had originally planned for, they were going to embrace the challenge head on and were excited about bringing two new additions to their home in Maplewood. “They are due only three weeks apart, so it’s not exactly like having twins, but it’s close,” Kate said. In the end, the babies were born only four days apart: one eleven days early, and one eleven days late, just before Christmas.
