Established in 2004, the Head On Portrait Prize aims to give the public and photographers (both emerging and established) the opportunity to view and exhibit high-quality photographic portraits. It is now one of the most highly acclaimed photographic portrait prize in the world and the heart of the Sydney-based Head On Photo Festival.
The portraits are anonymous at the time of selection, ensuring the final collection is diverse and engagingly unpredictable.
The panel of judges – who change annually – is guided by the simple criteria of images that encapsulate the personality of the sitter and invite an emotional response from the viewer.
This retrospective features all of the winners, plus some of the best entries, from 2004 to 2016.
Curated by Festival Creative Director Moshe Rosenzveig, produced by aMBUSH Gallery and presented with Head On Photo Festival and Wollongong Central.
This exhibition is part of Here, There & Everywhere.
