In the middle of a summer marked by raging bushfires and unprecedented drought, four groups of journalism students from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) set out across NSW – to see how regional communities are living with climate change.

They met and interviewed children, farmers, community leaders and more, to find out what it’s like to live with the increasingly constant spectre of a changing environment. They asked how they were building a sustainable future and how, as trainee journalists, they could help bridge the divide between city and country climate reporting.

While they heard stories of loss and hardship, they also found resilience and hope – and discovered rural communities united in their active search for solutions.

The project was made possible by the philanthropic support of Mike Cannon-Brookes, CEO of Atlassian, with the stories they gathered now featured on the UTS news-site, Central News
