George Megalogenis. What are Australian values?

George Megalogenis, in his book ‘Australia’s Second Chance,’ reviews the history of the country, where history is made from the many waves of outsiders contributing to the makeup of the nation.

Edward Said wrote in ‘Reflections on Exile and other essays,’ “Modern Western culture is in large part the work of exiles, émigrés, refugees. In the United States, academic, intellectual and aesthetic thought is what it is today because of refugees from Fascism, Communism and other regimes given to the oppression and expulsion of dissidents.”

In Australia, as reported: “But Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton insists none of the children will ever call Australia home, even if they are found to be genuine refugees.”

What are Australian values?

I have been photographing for over 30 years, starting in a serious way when I joined my local camera club in 1984. In those days I worked casually for a theatrical agency making portraits of extras working in films. I have also taught basic photography at high school for 15 years. I retired from teaching in 2002 and continue to teach locally.
