Unguarded Moments

John Donegan

Stanley Street Gallery

Exhibition Dates:

18 May 2016 to 04 June 2016

Exhibition Description

Unguarded Moments explores the pedestrian nature of people's lives. This photography attempts to portray people lost in their own private thoughts whilst inhabiting public space.

Donegan was inspired as a child to observe the minutiae of suburban life after discovering paintings like John Brack's Collins St 5PM, Jeffrey Smart's Cahill Expressway, and The Cricketers by Russell Drysdale.

This desire to find beauty in the drudgery of daily life was strengthened reading Australian authors including David Malouf, George Johnston and Tim Winton whose ability to turn a tram journey, a bike ride or a swim into something magical was an inspiration.

Each image is printed with UltraChrome K3 pigment inks [with life expectance of >75 years] printed 40 cm along the longest edge on Eterna Elite Fine Art Paper [320 gsm] 60cm x 60cm in dimension.
