My grandfather, Albert, is forced to take a back seat ride home after a family dinner because he is no longer allowed to drive at night. He is an extremely independent 87 year old man, but the truth is that he cannot continue doing everything himself.
We'd just been to a birthday party in Brisbane's Roma Street Parklands and were exiting via the rainforest garden. I was photographing the palms when my sons ran past me in wonder at the effect of the light through the trees. I love the image as it was completely impromptu and so unexpected. No filter has been applied.
Whilst photographing village life in the Mountain Kingdom Lesotho, a huge dust storm rolled in unexpectedly. I had just put my DSLR away to protect it from the dust when I spotted these two orphan children in the middle of the road. I took a quick photo on my mobile phone and helped them find cover. It's one of my favourite images from that trip. It just goes to show the magic is in the moment, not the technology.

Sitting waiting for a long time for my lift, I gave up on finding any beauty in this bleak and faded place and stared blankly at the wall. The older the afternoon grew, the more sickly the orange of the bare wall became. Eventually, I noticed the shadows cast by this long afternoon fell over the only greenery. How green it was, still, in its dark spot, surrounded by the reddening afternoon.
