In ‘Animated’, I asked my best friend to play some music and dance to her heart’s content. The slow shutter speed caused her sequinned top to resemble sparks flying around her, representing energy and liveliness.
Recorded levels of anxiety related disorders in 18 - 34 year olds is at its highest ever. We need to ask - are we really the most mentally ill generation? Or have medical advancements and psychological research enabled an increase in diagnosis? An extensive range of issues such as stress over education, money, careers ad social issuesthat all affect mental health. However Millenials are also slightly obsessed with labels and self diagnosing their less favourable personality traits which could also affect the way mental illnesses are perceived in society. This image depicts the raw emotion of a panic attack in an attempt to help suffers feel more comfortable talking about it after seeing it in a public setting.
I was inspired to design a photograph highlighting an important feature of my life. My sister and I have always had a strong friendship. This image tells the story of us growing up together, starting from the womb to adulthood. We always carry our family with us, representing the flowers and roses. Creating this image as a reminder of the precious relationship I am so grateful for.
Black and white image of beautiful flowers taken in my backyard at home. I love our gardens and enjoy all the different kinds we have flowering at different times of year and at various times of the day and in different weather conditions. druing rain and sun, the flowers express themselves and I love to capture their different qualities at these times with light, depth and colour or in this case Black and white. i really liked the dew and rain on this rose and wanted to capture the beauty of that on this occasion.
'Immersion' reflects the subject's action of immersing herself in the water. The impending shadows, stark contrast of a soft light & quiet darkness and the leering gaze of the subject, all create a haunting experience for the audience.
Sometimes the most fascinating perspectives are discovered when you look up. Surrounded by concrete walls, no escape, space closing in - look up! Sky, space, a way out... I chose to create a black and white image so that the work was all about angles, light, shadow, texture and perspective. A metaphor for urban living.
‘Man’s Best Friend’ explores the relationship between dog and owner. Whilst walking the streets of Florence, I came across a small scruffy dog barking at people walking by. The owner and locals were equally humoured by his sense of proprietary.
This is a photograph of a Maratus spider, a member of the jumping spider family. Its size is no more than four millimetres in width, making them very difficult to find, let alone photograph. This image was taken whilst the spider was lined up perfectly with the background of a bush and a pool cover, forming a blended brown/green backdrop. These spiders don't enjoy staying still, as they literally jump around, so getting an image of it is always a pleasure to see.
