Vitruvian Woman

Photographer's Name:
Fiona Wolf-Symeonides

"Vitruvian Woman (Self portrait) is from a body of work named IDOL.
This series plays with classic body ideals, portraying the nude male and female by drawing a line from the Stone Ages to Ancient Classic Greece, Renaissance period and present times.
The Vitruvian Woman was never created. Not by DaVinci anyway.
I have chosen to use a self portrait to illustrate the battle with body image, diets from an early age and fear of being less than average standing in the way of finding the strength and beauty of being a woman.
Every day reality tells you that it’s all about matching the perceived ideals of that era constructed mainly based on meeting media-dictated beauty standards or the approval of male peers."
