Wandering through the wilderness along the Turon River, I saw water dancing in the light. While our land weathers the storms of climate change, this secret joy of a river, once bone dry, had roared into life. After the floods, the landscape settled back into itself. The catastrophe had paused as rays of light danced through the water, ethereal messengers of beauty turning stones into gold.

The images show nature in a state of grace, an intermission between calamities. Whether experiencing a lightness of being or the insufferable weight of bearing witness to a corrupt planet, the landscape reflects our passing eye and mood. Poet Mary Oliver once described nature as “that wild silky part of ourselves” as we feel the joy in what is before us.

Sarah’s photographs capture the fleeting beauty of the natural world. The desert near Broken Hill inspired her first exhibition, where she immersed herself in the fragile, abstract repetitions and expressions of the natural world. Her project ‘Fragility’ was created during The Kenneth Myer Artistic Residency in the New Zealand Alps and was followed by ‘Gratitude’, where small moments of life on the ground became the core motif. ‘A Testament’, capturing the bushfires, was published in the PrixPictect Fire cycle. Regardless of the subject, Sarah’s work reflects the pure charisma of nature through a refined and sensitive eye.
