Compiled over two years, this series is arguably the most extensive survey of the DPRK (North Korea) by an independent photographer.

These images, never before seen in Australia, focus on ordinary North Koreans around the country and introduces unknown and unexpected sides to the DPRK.

The images of North Korea seen in the media offer a limited view of the country. Here the photographer invites us to consider and examine a more layered and complex society.

This exhibition is outdoors. Please check what COVID-19 restrictions are in place before you visit.

Fabian Muir is an Australian photographer based in Sydney. Before COVID-19 restrictions, his focus has been on societies living outside of the western political spectrum and norms. His research has taken him to North Korea, China, Iran, and all the former Soviet Union countries while examining the legacy of the USSR, including the contested breakaway territories of Abkhazia, Nagorno Karabakh and Transnistria.

He has exhibited worldwide and been featured extensively in international media.  He is an Eddie Adams Workshop alumnus and represented by Michael Reid Gallery in Berlin and Sydney.
