The Valley Within is an exhibition of photographic prints exploring the beauty that lies hidden within the Australian urban bush scape and the creative potential that abounds from a bushwalk.
Taking inspiration from a bushwalk through Old Man’s Valley in Hornsby, photographer David Starr, has maximised the use of a macro lens to capture aspects of flora that would remain hidden if exposed to a casual glance.
In using creative macro photography, David invites the viewer to stop and see the interplay of light and dark, stillness and movement, colour and texture of the flora within this landscape that is hidden within plain sight.
The resulting body of work is a colourful and stimulating presentation of a moment in time, within the native landscape. It looks to initiate a form of awakening for those who traverse the bush. David encourages the viewer to expand their visual perspective and creative imagination when bushwalking.
“We can watch life go by, without stopping to see. On this bushwalk, I stopped awhile, to see what I could see.” David Starr, 2017
