The economic model at play in industrial nations today is broken, wreaking havoc with the environment & breaking apart our social systems. ‘The Word On The Street’ is that there are alternatives.
This series is a collaboration with the Post Growth Institute, who provided the words juxtaposed with the black & white street photography. These act like creative seeds, intended to spark debate about the alternatives to our current economic system & ask us to consider an economy that no longer relies on perpetual growth.
Paula Broom believes art has a central role to play in our turbulent times to inform, inspire & question our uncertain, collective future.
She holds a BFA from London’s Middlesex University & a Master of Environmental Management from UNSW’s Institute of Environmental Studies. She is a mobile photographer, who enjoys the versatility and convenience of always having a camera to hand, with both a studio and a gallery in the form of apps and social media. Her photographic style is eclectic & increasingly reflects her her environmental concerns. Her work recently received an honourable mention in the performing arts category of the Mobile Photo Awards & has been selected internationally, not only for various publications & blogs, but also for several exhibitions, including a solo in Sydney in 2014.
