One Sydney morning, in a cafe with my family, I saw a man slowly eating cereal and gazing at the sea. I found the lines of his skin and expression on his face restful and beautiful. I asked to take his photo; he smiled and nodded. As I prepared to take his picture, I asked him his name - he said "Brett Hilder". Chatting further, I discovered he had been a photographer for years, travelling and exhibiting across Australia. A remarkable coincidence - a serendipitous introduction to the world of portraiture.
