Yagoona | Head On Photo Festival

Photographer's Name:

This image is part of a project that Im working on called the Cooks River. The River begins in Yagoona and travels through Sydney's western suburbs to its opening at Botany Bay. Captain Cook wrote about it in his diary: "I found a very fine stream of fresh water on the north side in the first sandy cove within the island before which a ship might lay land-locked and wood for fuel may be got everywhere." There's a real sense of prosperity and hope in Cook's diary entry and I think the mural reflects this as well. Which is what the project is about. How did it end up for the people that live along the now urban Cooks River? Do they have the same outlook that Cook had or is the opposite true?
